The Workshop

As part of the sculpture festival Sculpture on the Edge 2024 I will be guiding a 3 day sculpture workshop working from the live female model in plastelina on armature.

The aim of the workshop will be for each participant to create a quarter scale sculpture of the model that is durable and suitable for further stages of moulding and casting in a variety of materials including wax, epoxy, plaster or bronze. Moulding and casting are not included in this short workshop and can be considered at a later date.

Participants will gain an understanding of basic human proportion, forms and major masses as elements of the language of gesture essential for the figurative sculptor. This will include an Introduction to basic musculature and anatomy for the sculptor.

Work will commence with armature making, with the 3 day workshop providing the time required to develop the broad gesture of the pose to the finer extension through the face and hands.

 Level of skill

All participants will be able to work at their own pace and some sculptural experience whist handy is not essential.
